Corgi dog potty training is important to having a better behaved dog and requires your corgi to know two things:
(1) where to go, and
(2) the command words to know when to go.
There is another thing you need to learn too – how to tell when your corgi needs to go, and also a good spot for your corgi to go.
After your Welsh corgi has been sleeping for a couple hours, or you have just came back from shopping or a trip, or he just ate, is a time to take your corgi out to the spot he should relieve himself. This is the best time for corgi dog potty training to happen.
What happens if there is an accident? If your corgi ends up going on the floor it depends on what happened before he or she went. If your corgi just ate and you don’t take him outside to go, and he or she goes on the floor, it is partly your fault for not taking your corgi out to go when your corgi needed to go. But if your corgi ended it up getting excited and decided to go on the floor, that is the time to punish your corgi.
When you need to punish your dog, you raise your voice and say “NO!” Make sure you say it right after your corgi has done something wrong and should be scolded.
On the other hand, if your corgi goes in the right place, you praise him for doing so.
Training your corgi to go in the right spot for a command goes like this, you tell your corgi a couple words like “go potty”, or “go bathroom”, and take him to that spot.
If your corgi goes, you praise and keep repeating those steps until he learns to obey after hearing your command.
Some people claim that corgi dog potty training will not work with older dogs. That’s simply not true. We’ve successfully trained corgis who were several years old how to become great indoor dogs who would only go to the bathroom outside.
With a little time and patience, you’ll be amazed at the results. Both you and your Welsh corgi will be happy.
