How to Reward and Punish Your Corgi

There are some things that you need to keep in mind while training your corgi: (1) when to punish him, and (2) when to reward him.

While some styles of training your corgi can work, other methods have bad results. There is a confusion on what type of training works the best, and which ones don’t work at all. Many corgi owners are confused as to how to use rewards and punishments effectively when training.

Whatever you do, don’t scold your dog too much. When your corgi obeys you by doing a command he is told to do or by relieving himself where he should go, he should get a treat for it every time. A reward for your corgi can be anything from a dog treat, a pat on the head, or even a belly rub. Personally, I recommend staying away from dog food treats as a reward because it is very easy for corgis to gain weight.

Positive dog training can help teach your corgi faster. All your corgi wants to do is please you – that is the reason why positive dog training will help him learn faster.

In contrast, reprimanding your corgi (or any other dog) is something that shouldn’t be done unless needed. Examples of misbehavior are nonstop barking, jumping, growling, or damaging something he shouldn’t.

When you scold your corgi, should keep your tone angry, but don’t yell. Make sure to scold him at the same time he does something wrong. If you scold your corgi later for tons of things he did wrong, he will start to ignore you.

On the other hand, if you are understanding and caring, you will find that training your corgi will be easy and fun.
